Many of you have probably never heard of The Last Clock Winder, a VR game about building contraptions out of your own clones. The company behind the game is called Pontoco. This is a small game studio based in San Francisco, California, and Brooklyn, New York. They design and build thoughtful, approachable experiences that seek to enrich the lives of people across the world.

During this game, you are on a mission to repair an ancient clocktower built into the trunk of a colossal tree. Inside the tower, you find a pair of gloves that allow you to turn anything you do into a looping clockwork automaton. Use your automatons to grow plants, harvest resources, build wild contraptions, and find a way to save the clocktower.

The game’s release trailer aired on the 17th of May 2022 and was fully available about two weeks later. As a game veteran and a VR enthusiast, I had to take a shot at this cute and well-designed piece of art. It might not be your next massive multiplayer online game, but it doesn't have to be. The  four to six hour story which this  game has to offer is really incentivizing you to play more. encouraging you to use the most efficient way to solve a puzzle. Whilst progressing through the game the puzzles get harder and I often found myself scratching the back of my head for being clueless how to solve it. Luckily, the creators do give you a bit of help if you can’t work it out. They all give you one extra clone for you to use. There are also certain degrees of how efficient you pass the puzzle. I'm the kind of gamer that's scourges every single piece of a game just like being as efficient as possible checking all the boxes. That's probably why this took me quite a bit longer than the average person. In the time that I've had a VR headset, I've played many different kinds of games. Mostly being shooters and action related. I found it refreshing to play a slower-paced game, which made me more relaxed than stressed while also challenging my mind to find the best solution.

The voice acting in this game is phenomenal, with a female main character, which felt appropriate for the ambience the game gave off. They created a peaceful and relaxing environment. Good dialogue is key to producing a high-end game. Even though this isn't a AAA game, it's definitely one of the better VR games out there. If you're new to the space and you get motion sickness quite quickly this will probably suit you better then the fast-paced action games. They recently updated the game and added smooth locomotion (September 8, 2022). I highly recommend you giving it a try; the $20 price tag on the game is, in my opinion, worth it. If you want to cut down spending on your games try to pick it up whilst it's on a discount. This game is one of the hidden gems of 2022. I'm looking forward to seeing what else the Pontoco studio will produce in the future. If it is as good as this game, I will be sure to check it out.
